FF pump panels are designed to operate pumps continuously to maintain header pressure at all times. In addition, since all fire fighting systems are pressurised systems a predetermine fall in pressure will act to start and stop pumps/pumps.

The system is set on "Automatic" mode where Jockey, Main pumps & Booster pump along with Diesel Engine pump are integrated into the system. When there is a pressure drop in the system line, pressure switch senses this fall in pressure and signals the Control Panel to start the Jockey Pump. The Jockey Pump starts operation and restores the little lost pressure in the system. Once the required pressure is achieved, the Jockey Pump is automatically switched off. Hence, whenever there is a little pressure drop in the system, Panel starts the Jockey Pump and switches it off once required pressure is achieved.

Also it should be noted that the jockey pump is not designed to handle higher pressure drops therefore at these points the jockey pump will stop and the main pump will start. The Alarm system will also sound. The Main pump will continue to run until manually switched OFF. In a fire scenario the Main pumps will start automatically but must be manually stopped. The FF system also has standby pumps. These will start automatically if the main pump fails.

In case, "in case main pumps are running and any of them trips off due to electric fault or mechanical fault etc." Pressure in system will drop rapidly & when it falls beyond Set limit, Diesel engine driven pump would start. Diesel engine driven pump would be started by Auto engine starter in FF panel for which power is given by batteries. Also the batteries are continusly Charged by Battery charger in FF control panel. Hence, the batteries will always be charged & ready for emergency.

In FF systems also Booster pumps are used to boost the flow. These can be manual or automatically operated by pressure switches and can boost the flow to the required emergency flow rate.

This is a complete automatic solution for fire situations Where there will be no need of Human interference for working of pumps, except main pump has to be stopped manually.
